"Three Graces"
Valdese Public Art Commission's First Public Art

In Greek mythology, Beauty, Mirth, and Good Cheer were very admirable Graces. These graces were depicted during the Renaissance by numerous artists and sculptors and today have been captured by Artist Carl Billingsley.

Billingsley's version of "Three Graces" celebrates these qualities in terms of geometric figures. The sculptures exhibit the same geometry of form but are different in size, materials and texture. Each figure responds to changing light and atmosphere uniquely - sparkling in bright sunshine, changing tones and harmony under gray skies. Carl Billingsley hopes his sculptures will always bring mirth and good cheer to its viewers.
