Conveniently Located Along I-40

Valdese is perfectly situated for travelers looking to explore the best of Western North Carolina. Just off I-40 at exits 111 and 112, Valdese makes an ideal stop between Asheville, Boone, and Charlotte—each less than an hour away. Whether you're stretching your legs on a scenic drive, looking for a peaceful picnic spot, or craving a bite to eat, Valdese welcomes you with open arms. Enjoy a casual stroll through downtown, grab a coffee or meal at one of our locally owned restaurants, or take a relaxing break at the dog-friendly Lakeside Park with views of the water and mountains all around.

*Immerse Yourself in the Arts

Valdese offers an arts scene that celebrates both community creativity and regional talent. At the heart of it all is the Old Rock School, home to the Old Colony Players, a community theatre group known for their dynamic performances, including musicals, plays, and the historic outdoor drama From This Day Forward, which recounts the founding story of Valdese and its Waldensian settlers. Art lovers will also enjoy exploring the Rock School Art Galleries, which feature rotating monthly exhibits in two beautiful gallery spaces and a hallway gallery. From painting and sculpture to photography and mixed media, the galleries highlight the work of talented artists across the region. As you stroll downtown, keep an eye out for public art installations—vivid murals and striking sculptures that bring the town’s Waldensian heritage to life in creative and unexpected ways.

*Celebrate with Us Year-Round

Valdese may be a small town, but it’s big on celebrations! Known for its lively, family-friendly events, Valdese fills its calendar with activities that bring locals and visitors together all year long. In the warmer months, free outdoor concerts turn the streets into dance floors, with live music echoing off the historic buildings downtown. But music is just the beginning—our event lineup includes everything from craft shows and food festivals to footraces, hiking events, scavenger hunts, and even bocce tournaments. Whether you're joining the excitement of Waldensian Festival Weekend or hunting for leprechauns in March, there's always something happening in Valdese. Be sure to check our event calendar and plan your visit around one of our signature celebrations!

*Step Into a Story of Courage and Faith

History runs deep in Valdese, and visitors are invited to step into a powerful story of resilience and faith that began in the Cottian Alps of Northern Italy. Learn about the journey of the Waldensian people—who fled persecution and built a new life in North Carolina—by visiting the Waldensian Heritage Museum, where 850 years of history are preserved through compelling exhibits, rare artifacts, and historic archives. Just a short walk away, the Trail of Faith offers a moving, open-air tour across 11 acres, where 16 beautifully crafted buildings and exhibits trace the spiritual and physical journey of the settlers. For train enthusiasts and history buffs alike, a stop at the Piedmont & Western Railroad Museum inside the Old Rock School is a must—exploring the rich rail history of the region and its connection to the development of Western North Carolina.
